Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, began a four-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Business Education and Industry 5.0 for the faculty of St. Joseph's Institute of Management (JIM), Tiruchirappalli from 20 October 2024 in its campus. Earlier, upon the arrival, welcoming and ice breaking sessions were organised.

With an initiative to enhance educators on the evolving landscape of business education in the context of Industry 5.0, importance of human-centric approaches, sustainability, and advanced technology integration were the agenda of this FDP.

Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, Director, XISS, greeted the participants of the FDP and while taking a session on Jesuit Values emphasised said that empowering humans through the integration of machines can help solve complex challenges and we must explore the humanitarian aspect of Industry 5.0 with respect for human rights and spirituality in the workplace. He also said that it is the right time to explore the nuances of Ignatian Inspiration Paradigm (IIP) in context to changing landscape of business education. He discussed St. Ignatius' values as a guiding approach for Industry 5.0, which focuses on harnessing the potential of both human and machine collaboration in a human-centric pattern. Further, in his address, he cited examples drawing on historical lessons from the Nazi concentration camps, where education without morality led to devastation.

Moving further, Dr Paul Raj SJ, Director, JIM addressed the gathering, reinforcing the need for stronger institutions to support newer ones. He elaborately discussed that importance of guidance and shared learning are key to mutual growth.

Earlier, Dr Amar E. Tigga, Dean Academics, set the agenda of the FDP as equipping participants with the skills and knowledge required for Industry 5.0, particularly in terms of balancing technology with human values. He said that we wish to build a collaborative learning method to achieve academic and professional targets. The convergence of advanced technologies in business operations is the correct way to discuss more which will prepare the faculty and students for the challenges and opportunities presented by the future of machine learning.

The day further marked several crucial sessions including Business Education and Industry 5.0 by Mr Sarajit Jha, Chief Business Transformation & Digital Solution, Tata Steel followed by Application of GenAI in Higher Education by Dr Kirti Kumar, IIIT Ranchi. A session on Use of Technology in Higher Education – Admission to Alumni was conducted by Dr Amar Tigga and Dr Bhaskar Bhowani, Professor & Admission Coordinator continued with a session on Accreditation Process & Brand Building through Social Media by Ms Aayurshi, Brand Manager and Ms Shruti Sahay, Media Officer. The day concluded with a group work on the application possibility of the thoughts shared in the sessions.

On day two, an important session on Writing and Publication Skills in present scenario was conducted by Dr Anant Kumar, Professor & Head, Rural Management Programme and Dr Anirudh Prasad, Editor JJDMS. This was followed by a session on Accreditation - NBA; OBE by Dr Rishi Dwiwedi. Further in the day, a session on Opportunities and Challenges in Projects or Consultancy was taken by Dr Sant Kumar Prasad, Coordinator, Research & Planning along with Dr Uma Chatterjee Saha, Assistant Professor. A session on Business Intelligence Tools for Educators was conducted by Dr Sharda Singh, Assistant Professor and this concluded the expert sessions where insights on innovative teaching methodologies, the impact of emerging technologies, and the importance of aligning academic curricula with industry needs were shared thoroughly. Later, participants engaged in interactive sessions, discussions, and discussions designed to foster collaboration and inspire new teaching strategies.

The second day concluded with the best takeaways from the classroom sessions of two days. On the final day of the FDP, all participants visited the XLRI Campus in Jamshedpur to explore more on the practices of the Jesuit B-School. Finally, the FDP ended with a vote of thanks and with a promise to apply the learnings in practices.
