Background

Dr Hemant Tigga holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology and Tribal Studies from the Central University of Jharkhand, which he completed in July 2024. Before joining the Rural Management Programme at Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, as an Assistant Professor, he served as a faculty member in the Department of Social Work at Doon University, Dehradun, for one year. An alumnus of XISS, he earned his Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Development (PGDRD) in 2011. During his academic journey, he interned with Hindustan Zinc Limited (Vedanta) in Udaipur, where he conducted impact assessments across five districts of Rajasthan, focusing on Anganwadi projects. Beyond his academic and professional pursuits, he has creative interests. He completed a course in Screenplay Writing for Cinema from AAFT, Noida, in 2024 and published a book of poetry on Amazon Kindle in 2023.

Professional Experience

He brings with him diverse professional experience. After graduating from XISS, he worked on Gujarat State Government projects as a District Project Consultant in Narmada district, and later led CSR initiatives at Krishi Gramin Vikas Kendra, Ranchi, under Usha Martin Limited (2012–13). He also served as an officer in a nationalized bank for five years (2013–18) before transitioning to academia.

Achievements

He has published articles and book chapters in national and international journals of repute and has also participated in national and international conferences. He has presented research papers in various national and international seminars and conferences all over India. He has qualified the National Eligibility Test with Junior Research Fellowship (NET with JRF) conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in Social Work in 2019.
