Background
Dr Smriti Prasad spent her early years in Pedong (Kalimpong, West Bengal), pursuing her secondary and higher secondary qualifications from St. George’s Higher Secondary School. She went on to pursue higher studies at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, earning a B.A. and M.A. in Economics, along with a B.Ed. degree. She obtained her Ph.D. in Economics from Sikkim University, with her research interest lying in the areas of microfinance, entrepreneurship, and development economics.
Professional Experience
Dr Smriti Prasad began her teaching career as a Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) in Economics at Dr. Graham’s Homes, Kalimpong. Further, she went on to serve as Guest Faculty in the Department of Economics at Siliguri College, and later briefly worked as a PGT at Atreyee DAV Public School, Balurghat. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the PGDM Financial Management Programme at the Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi.
Achievements
Dr Smriti Prasad holds a strong academic record, having secured first class in B.A., M.A., B.Ed., and Ph.D. coursework in Economics. She was awarded merit-based scholarships throughout her B.A. and M.A. studies in recognition of her academic excellence. With a keen interest in research from the early stages of her academic journey, she published a research article based on her M.A. dissertation, as well as another derived from a class assignment during her Ph.D. coursework. She has six research publications to her credit, including two papers in reputed international journals indexed in Scopus (Q2), ABDC (B category), and ESCI, two in UGC CARE-listed journals, and two in reputed peer-reviewed journals. She was awarded the prestigious ICSSR Doctoral Fellowship in recognition of the academic merit and societal relevance of her Ph.D. research titled “MICRO-ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH TRAINING OF SELF-HELP GROUPS IN SIKKIM.” Dr. Prasad has presented research papers at five academic seminars—two international and three national—demonstrating her active engagement in scholarly discourse.
